The Ruby tag - <rt> Tag

The ruby parentheses (rt) tag is used to provide parentheses around a ruby text component of a ruby annotation. It is shown by browsers that do not support the ruby annotations.

The rp tag which is the sub element of a ruby element represents nothing and its contents must be ignored. The rp tag is used in conjunction with the ruby and the rt tags as it wraps the beginning and closing parentheses around the (rt) ruby text.

Web browsers that support the ruby element hide the rp tag.

Example code:

<html>
  <body>
    <ruby>
       About Ruby RP<rp> ( </rp><rt> RUBY RP </rt><rp> ) </rp>
         About RUBY RT<rp> ( </rp><rt> RUBY RT </rt><rp> ) </rp>
      </progress>
    </form>
  </body>
</html>
