The <aside> Tag

The aside tag is used to create content that is somehow related to the main document but, can be considered separate from that content and therefore, it works as an independent content.

It can also be used for some visual effects like sidebars for displaying ads and for other things that are not a part of the main content of the page.

Aside can be used in two different scenarios:

  • In conjunction of an article element, i.e., inside an article element. Here it should contain content specifically related to the article.
  • Outside of an article element, where content should be related to the web site.

The aside element if used correctly can be very useful in enhancing the look of the page content.

You will get detailed information on
  • History of HTML
  • Features
  • Comparison with older versions, and
  • Learning new tags
